The Company is a leader in the design, manufacture and sale of electronic test and measurement instrumentation. Their products are used in the electrical sector from generation, transmission, distribution and utilisation all the way through to hand held products for the contractor.

The engineering function currently comprises approximately 30 people, which are broken down into a number of project teams. Typically the teams are made up of 5 professional engineers developing new product from creation, through production engineering and final release to the market. A team leader is appointed for a new project from the engineers.

Their product encompasses a breadth of disciplines including precision analogue often with high noise content, digital design, embedded firmware, PC software and DSP techniques etc. For this reason, they are looking for engineers who can offer competences in more than one of these areas.

It is likely that the successful candidate will have a first or second-class honours degree combined with at least five years industrial experience. Direct experience in an instrumentation design field would be especially helpful and also an appreciation of safety and EMC aspects of the product design.

Of greatest need to the company now are hardware-oriented engineers with project leadership potential. We are not looking for pure software/firmware people at this time.

The skills we require include the following: -

• Analogue design skills using op amps / comparators and discrete components.
• Hardware design of analogue design of current sources using SCRs, FETs and IGBTs with isolated closed loop control methods.
• Power supply design skills with low power / high efficiency attributes.
• Familiarity with thermal management techniques.
• Experience of DACs and ADCs.
• General measurement techniques.
• PCB Schematic entry via Orcad Capture CIS.
• C and C++ Firmware experience.
• Familiarity with microprocessors and their interfaces, particularly Renesas M16C family.
• Experience of Bench level Faultfinding, debugging. Design verification and testing.
• Experience of EMC / ESD testing.
• Knowledge of embedded microprocessor communications via RS232 / USB / Bluetooth.
• PCB Layout techniques.
